Felonies
• Joshua Brian Hopkins, 23, Madisonville, Ky., pleaded no contest and was granted a one-year deferred prosecution Monday, Nov. 26, on a charge of misdemeanor bail jumping. In July, he pleaded not guilty to related charges of felony theft and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. These charges were dismissed. The charges stem from an altercation in Albany in June, when he reportedly beat a man and was disorderly with a 16-year-old girl. The bail jumping conviction will be considered for dismissal if he meets the conditions of his deferred prosecution, including no contact with the girl and no drinking. He must also continue to participate in sobriety and alcohol rehabilitation programs, attend monitoring conferences and follow all recommended counseling.
• Kevin W. Phillips, 53, Argyle, was charged Wednesday, Nov. 21, with three Class F felony counts of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor count of theft. A warrant is issued for his arrest. The charges stem from an investigation into a series of burglaries in Lafayette and Green counties in 2009 and 2010. Court records indicate that in June 2009, Phillips burglarized a tool shed at a farm residence in the W9400 block of Trotter Road and a home on Lewis Road in the Town of Jordan. He is also accused of stealing $535 in Stihl chainsaw parts and accessories from the Eastside Farm Equipment dealership, W5386 County DR in the Town of Monroe in March 2010.
• David Charles Kraft, 36, Brodhead, was charged Monday, Nov. 26, with a felony charge of false imprisonment and misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Court records indicate he punched and threw a boot at a woman during an argument the day before at a home in the 1000 block of 19th Street in Brodhead and then blocked her from leaving the bedroom. He signed a $3,000 signature bond Tuesday, Nov. 27, with the condition that he have no contact with the alleged victim or her residence. His preliminary hearing is scheduled Dec. 14.
Misdemeanors
• Kala L. Booth, 22, New Glarus, pleaded no contest and was granted a one-year deferred prosecution Wednesday, Nov. 21, on a misdemeanor charge that she wrote a worthless check in March to the amount of $22.14 to Cenex, Southern Wisconsin Co-op, 2914 13th St., Monroe. An unrelated misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed. The worthless check conviction will be considered for dismissal if she meets the conditions of her deferred prosecution, including making progress toward her high school equivalency or secondary education degree. She must also pay $149.88 in restitution and $163 in court fees, attend monitoring conferences and complete financial counseling through the Green County Check Offender Program.
• Tyler James Meier, 20, Key West, Fla., was charged Monday, Nov. 26, with disorderly conduct and battery. The charges relate to an allegation of domestic abuse in the past week in the 500 block of Washington Street in Monticello. Court records indicate he violently pushed his 19-year-old wife to the floor and repeatedly hit her in the upper arm. He signed a $1,500 signature bond, with the condition that he have no contact with the woman. He has a pre-trial conference scheduled Jan. 15.
