Charlene R. Johnson, age 90, of Monroe, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. Charlene was born March 26, 1921 in Monroe, the daughter of William and Rufina (Rinehardt) Metcalf.
She attended Monroe schools and was a graduate of Monroe High School. After her marriage to H. Wallace Johnson of Freeport, Ill., the couple moved to Florida. Following the death of her husband, Charlene returned to Monroe.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Martha) Johnson of Colville, Wash.; a daughter Tania Johnson of Monroe; her sister, Genevieve Counselman of Monroe; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Wallace Jr.; and a brother in infancy.
She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe.
A Memorial Mass for Charlene Johnson will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011, at 8:00 a.m., at St. Victor Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Miami, Fla.. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
