MONROE - A Monroe teenager convicted of burglarizing a garage was sentenced Wednesday to two years of probation and 14 days in jail.
Tyler D. Bevins, 18, is also ordered to get his high school diploma, undergo an assessment for alcohol or other drug abuse and obtain and maintain employment. He is fined a total of $518 in court and probation costs, including a $250 DNA test fee.
He pleaded guilty to the Class F felony burglary charge in January.
Monroe police arrested Bevins early on a Sunday last September, soon after a resident in an apartment building at 1325 16th St. called 911 to report seeing a man dressed in all black going through parked cars and carrying "a bag that jingles."
The contents of Bevins' bag led police to a garage burglary nearby in the 1500 block of 13th Avenue. A Ziploc bag of $38.27 in "lunch money" and a wallet were among the items stolen from a vehicle parked in the garage, according to court documents.
Bevins gave off a "strong odor of intoxicants," noted the arresting officer in his report. Bevins was ticketed during his arrest for underage drinking.
