Betty Marie Hanson

Betty Marie Hanson, age 84 of Madison, formerly of rural Blanchardville and New Glarus, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was born on November 10, 1927 in York Township, Green County, Wisconsin to Morris and Beulah (Everson) Strommen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Betty attended the Loyalty Grade School, was a graduate of the Blanchardville High School in 1945 and of the Madison Business College in 1946. She worked as a bookkeeper/stenographer at Jones Typewriter Company in Madison for three years. On February 6, 1949 she married Kenneth W. Hanson at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church and they farmed east of Blanchardville for 41 years. They retired in 1990 and moved to New Glarus, and then moved to Madison in 1999. Betty loved music, especially playing the piano and singing in the church choir. She was a member of Blanchardville Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards, and she dearly loved her family. Betty was a wonderfully loving and caring mother and grandmother. She had a special sense of humor that cheered all those around her, and she will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her eight children: Arlene Hanson of Storsteinnes, Norway, David (Jennifer) Hanson of Parker, CO; Donald (Nina) Hanson of Enid, OK, Kathryn Hanson of Madison, WI; Carol Hanson of Madison, WI; Barbara (Jeff) Welty of Cedar Rapids, IA; Mark (Holly) Hanson of Madison, WI; and Marilyn Hanson of Monona, WI; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on January 27, 2004; her parents; two sisters, Grace Foster and Inez Cleary; and a brother, Arlyn Strommen.

A Visitation for Betty Hanson will be held on Wednesday, May 23rd from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Reverend Mark Gruner of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Blanchardville. Memorials may be made to the Blanchardville Lutheran Church. The Saether Funeral Home in Blanchardville is assisting the family.
