Betty E. Steinmann age 86 of DeKalb, Illinois died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, IL. She was born May 20, 1922 at Winslow, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Edna Steinmann where she grew up. She lived in Monroe from 1937 until graduating from Monroe H.S. there in 1940. Betty received a B.A. degree from MacMurray College and then served in the Navy during World War II. She earned a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin and further credits from the University of Florida. She accepted a position with Northern Illinois, University Library from 1961 and retired in 1986.
Betty was a long time member in American Association of University Women, League of Women Voters, DeKalb Business and Professional Women's Club, and a past president of N.I.U. Association.
Surviving are her nieces, Margaret Willis, Quincy, IL, Magdalena McMillen, Baileys Harbor, WI, Mary Rowe, Stevens Point; nephews, Tom Hurd, Carmel, Indiana, George Steinmann, Springfield, MO, and John Steinmann of Dexter, MO.
Graveside burial was held on August 1, 2008 at Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home assisted the family.
