Betty A. Pollard-Newberger

Betty Arlene Pollard-Newberger was born to Mildred and Dwayne Lewis in Monticello WI. Betty was the second eldest of 10 children. She is survived by her brothers and sisters Ila May (Verona WI), and Don Lewis (Barrington Ill), and George (Sager TX), Eldon (Palmyra MO), Ilene (Platteville WI) , Carol (Sun City, CA), Rolland (Platteville, WI) and Sheldon Taylor (LaCrosse WI); her sister Jean preceded her in death.

As a young girl Betty ran a muskrat line with her father and loved to read. She often "walked down the railroad tracks" by their home, made from two railroad box cars, for some peace and quiet from such a big family and, I suspect, to dream about her future. Betty attended Green County Normal School and earned a two year teaching certificate. She began teaching in a one room school house in Durand Ill., where she stoked the coal fire stove each morning.

Betty married John J. Pollard in 1947 in Monroe WI where they began a family and soon ventured from WI to raise their family of four; Robert, John, Connie, and Tom in the plains of Nebraska and Kansas and later to Loveland, Colorado. As she started her family she was involved in school and church functions; she loved playing bridge and baking homemade pies, cookies, and candy. John preceded her in death in 1991.

Betty married Don Newberger in 1995 in Loveland, CO and later moved to Lake Havasu, AZ where they enjoyed traveling, cooking, and having visits from friends and family. In 2006 Don and Betty returned to Colorado.

Her grandchildren; Nicole, Stephanie, John, Ryan, Danielle, Emily and Luke always brought a smile to Betty's face; she enjoyed watching them grow into adulthood and begin their lives. Betty was also blessed with three great grandchildren.

A memorial is scheduled for August 18, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins; a small reception will follow in the Resthaven Reception Center.
