Benjamin C. Riemer, age 94, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Woods Crossing Nursing Home, Brodhead, WI. He was born on October 28, 1922 in Decatur Township, Green County, WI, the son of Charles and Alma (Stamm) Riemer. He married Arlene V. Roen on November 26, 1943 at the East Luther Valley Church, rural Beloit, WI. She passed away on August 24, 2009.
Ben and Arlene farmed on Ben's family farm in Decatur Township in Green County before moving to Brodhead in 1984. He graduated from Albany High School, Albany, WI, and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead. He had served on many committees through the years; Southern Wisconsin Board of Directors Co-op for 29 years, Decatur School Board, County ASC Committee, Charter Member of the NFO, Brodhead City Council and Planning Commission, served as the accessor for Spring Grove and Decatur Township for 30+ years, and had been very active in the Brodhead Senior Center and the Albany Historical Society. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Ben is best remembered for having a giving heart, friendly nature, and helping hands, always being there to lend a helping hand to family and neighbors whenever he was asked or saw needs.
He is survived by his children; Bergene Cowan, Baraboo, WI, Vickie (Ed) Dorst, Fond du Lac, WI, Linda (Roaul) Wuethrich, Necedah, WI, Duane (Audrey) Riemer, Robert (Tammy) Riemer, both of Brodhead, Joe (Deb) Riemer, Marshfield, WI; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, seven great great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Nona Nelson, Albany, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Sandra (John) Popanz, great-granddaughter, Brittany Popanz, three sisters, Iva Sanderlin, Luella Knutson, Nellie in infancy, and two brothers, Gail and Nellis Riemer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Brodhead, WI, with Rev. David Frey officiating. Burial will be in the Gap Cemetery, Decatur Township. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Brodhead or Albany Historical Society.
