DARLINGTON - A storage barn on Tish Road was completely destroyed in a storm that produced apparent tornado activity at about 7:30 p.m. Monday night in an area southeast of Darlington and continuing into Wiota township in Lafayette County, according to a press release from Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley.

No injuries associated with the storm have been reported.

A preliminary rapid damage assessment by Lafayette County Emergency Management and sheriff's deputies indicated building and tree damage at about 15 locations in Darlington and Wiota townships.

The Sheriff's 911 Center received numerous reports of funnel cloud activity, and dispatchers alerted several fire departments to serve as storm spotters.

Lafayette County Highway Department crews and township crews were called out to remove trees from some roadways.

Green County escaped most of the damaging winds. Some trees were snapped and a snowmobile trailer was overturned in Mt. Pleasant Township south of Monticello. The storm front arrived in that area shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Tanna McKeon, project manager of Green County Emergency Management, said the National Weather Service Center has determined that the damage was caused by straight-line winds.

Investigators check reported damages to determine which are caused by tornados, she said.
