Arnold W. Heller, age 87, of Monroe, formerly of South Wayne and Necedah, died on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at his home. He was born on July 7, 1921, the son of Fred and Aline (Nussbaumer) Heller. Arnold and Lillian Nall were married on September 28, 1940 in Dubuque, IA. Arnold entered the U.S. Army in October of 1942. He participated in the Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. Arnold was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, with 1 silver and 1 bronze battle star, bronze service arrowhead, 4 overseas service bars, the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Bronze Star Medal. He farmed in the Argyle and South Wayne areas, until 1967 when he worked at the Huber Brewing Co. until 1986, when he retired and moved to Necedah. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ and the Argyle American Legion Post #251. Arnold enjoyed playing cards visiting with his family and friends, he loved to go fishing, traveling and he always looked forward to his trips to the casino. Arnold also was an avid sports fan, following the Badgers, Packers, Cubs and Brewers.
Surviving are his daughters, Carol (Ron) Johnson of Darlington, Jill (Dennis) Meier of Monroe; son, Frank "Buzz" (Ginny) Heller of Monroe; 7 grandchildren, Tana, Todd, Tracy, Carrie, Heath, Trisha and Scott; 13 great-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Aaron, Cade, Ella, Austin, Jaleigh, Kourtney, Kylee, Caden, Tierany, Brevan and Adam; and a sister, Lelia Sass of Monroe and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and wife, Lillian of 67 years; sister, Minnie Babler; brothers, August, Fred and Carl.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Ray Sowersby of Peace U.C.C. No visitation will be held per Arnold's wishes. A memorial fund is being established in Arnold's memory.
