Arlie William Kundert age 84 of Monroe, Wisconsin, lost his battle with lung cancer on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Arlie was born August 10, 1926 in Jordan township, Green County, Wisconsin, to Fred and Ella (Rothenbuehler) Kundert. He married Eldora Ruth Wellman on November 26, 1955 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe.

Arlie is survived by his wife, Eldora Kundert of Monroe, WI; daughter, Arla (Paul) Wagner of Lansing, IA; grandchildren, Monica and Hans; brother, Delbert (Gudrun) Kundert of Monroe, WI; sister-in-law, Cleo Kundert of New Glarus, WI; brother-in-law, Ernest Wellman of Medford, WI; and many Nieces, Nephews, & other relatives. Arlie was preceded in death by his Parents and brother, Roy Kundert.

After leaving the home farm, Arlie worked as a tin smith for 17 years at Lanz's Heating and Sheet Metal. He then worked for the Green County Highway Department until he retired in 1989. After retiring, Arlie worked part-time delivering trucks for Monroe Truck Equipment.

Arlie is best remembered for his love of airplanes and motorcycles. He obtained his pilots license in 1952 and enjoyed many years of flying. His enthusiasm for motorcycles began in the early 1930s when his mother answered his repeated pleas for a toy motorcycle written on a grocery list. He bought his first Harley Davidson motorcycle at age 16. Even after losing his leg in a motorcycle accident in 1947, Arlie continued to ride. He enjoyed his final solitary ride on Independence Day, 2010.

Per Arlie's request, a visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe.

In celebration of Arlie's life and his passion for motorcycling, all motorcyclists who knew Arlie are asked to join in a motorcycle procession after the funeral from the funeral home to Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials to American Cancer Research in Arlie's memory in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
