Alice M. Blasing, 77, of Freeport died Friday in Swedish American hospital in Rockford following a brief illness.
She was born April 8, 1931 in Milledgeville, Illinois, the daughter of Elbert and Lucille (Kleckler) Barthel.
She married Donald G. Blasing in Milledgeville on November 14, 1953. Mr. Blasing survives.
Mrs. Blasing was a registered nurse. Her employment included Saint Clare Hospital, Monroe, Wisconsin, Rockford Memorial Hospital and Freeport Memorial Hospital.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Donald L. (Lynnette) Blasing of Brimfield, Illinois and Steven (Amy) Blasing of Pearl City, Illinois; two daughters, Linda (James) Wean of LaVergne, Tenn. and Jeanne (James) Crocker of Rockford, Illinois; five brothers, Donald (Margaret) Barthel of Baltimore, Md., Paul Barthel of Harvard, Illinois, Lyle (Carol Jean) of Virginia Beach , Va., Charles "Chuck" Barthel of Bangor, Wisconsin and Kenneth (Thelma) Barthel of Elgin, Illinois; three sisters, Ruth (Thomas) Flynn of Phoenix, Ariz., Carol (James) Keller of Sedona, Ariz. and Evelyn (Roger) Petitgoue of Sterling, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Chris Barthel; 12 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Calvin and Harold; and her sister-in-law, Eilene Barthel.
Memorial service for Mrs. Blasing will be 2 p.m. Monday in Emmanuel Evangelical Church, Cedarville. The Rev. Jack Ward, pastor, will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
