Alice L. Schoepfer, age 87, of Monroe, died Monday, December 15, 2008 at her home. She was born on January 17, 1921 in Sylvester Township, Green County; the daughter of George and Bertha (Hiltbrand) Wichelt. Alice married Nathan A. Schoepfer on October 13, 1940 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. Alice farmed with her husband in Adams Township for 30 years. She moved to Monroe in 1971, where she worked for Monroe Bakery for 15 years and later worked for the Monroe Times for 22 years. Alice belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ and was a former member of Woman of the Moose Chapter #599. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three children: Carol (Richard Christen) Wenger of Monroe, Kathryn (Richard) Olin of Brodhead, and Nathan (Debra) Schoepfer Jr. of Evansville; a brother, Robert (Bev) Wichelt of Oregon, WI; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Kenneth; half-sister, Betty Hustad; son-in-law, Ernie Wenger; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Strait.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe with Rev. Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery at Juda.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe.
