MONROE — Monroe Police have successfully reunited a number of people with their lost property after a rash of outdoor ornament thefts and a recent arrest.
The thefts were of commemorative and decorative items from the grave sites in area cemeteries and some homes. Many of those items, however, have not been recovered.
“A number of items reportedly stolen from Monroe and Brodhead Cemeteries have not been located most likely been sold online,” said Sgt. Dan Skatrud, a Monroe detective working the case, in a statement.
They are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect as someone they may have purchased a decorative or memorial item, to contact police. Police also said they are looking to reunite more owners with property that they have recovered.
Following execution of a search warrant and a subsequent police investigation, the accused, Carrie Thompson, 46, was charged earlier this month with several counts of receiving stolen property, obstructing justice and resisting arrest.
So far, she has only been charged with misdemeanors but police have said those charges could eventually grow into felony status, depending on the prosecutor’s view of the developing case, he said.
“If you are a victim of either cemetery or residential thefts of any types of solar lights again feel free to contact the Monroe Police Dept. at 608-329-2400,” Police said
