Man faces sentencing in child sex abuse

MONROE — A Hazel Green man faces a lengthy prison sentence after he was convicted by a jury of repeated sexual assault of the same child. 

According to court records, a jury found 59-year-old Ronald Leifker Sr. guilty of the charge, a class B felony in Wisconsin, on Wednesday Aug. 16. The trial had been running in Darlington before Circuit Judge Faun Phillipson since about August 8. Leifker Sr. had pleaded not guilty to the charges in September 2022.

Leifker Sr. faces sentencing at 10 a.m. on Aug 24 in Lafayette County. The law applies to a defendant who is convicted of abusing a victim more than three times. 

Leifker Sr. faces up to 40 years in prison for his crimes, under state law. Leifker Sr. has been free on $5,000 bond — posted shortly after his arrest, according to court records.
