MONROE - A $300,000 medical and management staff fundraising campaign to support the Green County EMS Capital Campaign is nearing its goal.
With the help of Monroe Clinic and Hospital Foundation, the medical and management staff has set a goal of raising $150,000. Monroe Clinic pledged to match that amount, bringing Monroe Clinic and Hospital Foundation's fundraising goal for Green County EMS to $300,000.
"Our medical staff recognizes that EMS is a partner on the frontlines of healthcare. Their volunteerism and passion for helping others is often the very thing that allows patients to receive timely, life-saving treatment - and our caregivers understand that." said Mike Sanders, Monroe Clinic President and CEO. "After the Green County EMS announced plans to raise funds for a larger facility, the response here has been overwhelmingly supportive. Their need is our need, and we couldn't work toward a mission of creating healthier communities without them."
"The role of the Monroe Clinic and Hospital Foundation is to positively impact the health of our community through giving efforts," said Tracey Pederson, executive director of the Monroe Clinic and Hospital Foundation. "The Green County EMS donation is a very visible example of the foundation fulfilling its mission."
From October 2011 to October 2012, GCEMS was dispatched to 1,530 calls. While home base is Monroe, more than 50 percent of the volunteers come from outside of Monroe.
GCEMS provides service to more than half of Green County. It is a volunteer, non-profit organization currently having only one paid employee.
Green County EMS has outgrown the current facility, including the two garage stalls for four vehicles.
"We are funded by donations and billing for service. We get no local tax money, so community support is extremely important to us," said Dan Nufer, GCEMS Chief.
The funding will help construct a new 12,000-square foot facility that will include three classrooms, sleeping quarters, full-size kitchen, adequate office space and a climate-controlled, five-stall garage.
