DARLINGTON — A woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Madison hospital on Tuesday night, Aug. 15, after reportedly being struck by a car in downtown Darlington.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Madison Street and East North Street, according to published reports. The victim was not identified but the 23-year-old woman was apparently sitting on the curb, when a car veered toward her, hitting the curb and crushing her legs.

She was flown by MedFlight to UW Hospital in Madison for emergency treatment.

The driver, reports said, was Oscar Diaz, 17, of Darlington, who was cited for operating without a driver’s license, it was reported. Attempts to reach police chief Jason King for comment were unsuccessful Thursday.

The incident remains under investigation.
