Brodhead crash victim identified

MONROE — The medical examiner’s office in Rock County on Monday this week released the name of the victim of a fatal, one-car crash last Friday, June 16.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, a 54-year-old man was driving eastbound on W Avon North Townline Road, just east of South County Highway T in the Town of Avon, just before 6 p.m. Friday, when he lost control of his vehicle. His name is Richie W. Swartwout of Brodhead.

His car then left the road and rolled over multiple times, ending up in the south ditch along the road. The victim was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled.

According to police, EMS quickly responded, he was transported to the hospital and later died at the Mercy Trauma Center in Janesville.

The crash remains under investigation.
