Board OKs teacher transfer

MONROE - The Monroe School Board approved the involuntary transfer of Parkside School teacher Juanita Butler from third to fourth grade at the school for next year.

Monroe Superintendent Larry Brown Monday night said Parkside School Principal Todd Paradis made the recommendation for the transfer for several reasons.

Since Butler taught third grade last year, she is familiar with the incoming fourth-grade students and can continue working on the educational needs of those students, as well as collaborating with the hearing-impaired teacher to help those kids.

Brown said that 50 percent of incoming fourth-grade students didn't meet benchmarks on the DIBELS test last year for reading progression and 60 percent of students tested at the minimal or basic levels.
