MONROE - Administrators in the Monroe School District will have to wait to find out about their contract extensions.
The Monroe School Board Monday night agreed to wait before approving administrative contracts. The district faces a projected $1.45 million deficit in 2012-13, and Monroe School District Superintendent Larry Brown asked the board to delay a decision.
"There is no statutory requirement to have them approved tonight," Brown said of the administrative contracts.
Earlier in January, Brown said the district would cut the Monroe Middle School assistant principal position after the contract expires after the 2012-13 year. Cutting the position was part of the district's reduction list for 2013-14 after voters rejected a four-year, $8 million non-recurring referendum last April.
The school board Monday also:
- Honored Monroe High School Science teacher Dale Buvid with the Lamp of Learning Staff Excellence Award. Buvid has served as a teacher in the district for more than 30 years. Buvid was also honored for his contributions to the district as the head softball coach and the JV boys basketball coach.
- Approved a $500 donation from Colony Brands Inc. to the Monroe High School Choir.
- Heard updates from school board members on the Wisconsin Association of School Boards Convention they attended last week in Milwaukee. Some of the workshop topics were school funding, establishing social media policies, busing and transportation costs, heath care, students' preparedness for math courses in college and concussion management plans.
