CLARNO - The Green-Rock Audubon Society and the youth services department of the Monroe Public Library will host Bird Fest from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11 at the Green County Forestry Education Center, 5 miles south of Monroe on Wisconsin 69 and east on County P.
The event is free and open to the public. All materials will be provided.
Bird Fest will offer children and adults several opportunities to learn more about local and migratory birds.
Participants can compare their own "wingspan" to that of a hummingbird or eagle and investigate how birds process their food. Crafts for children include making their own paper tube binoculars and creating a feathered pop-up card.
John Patterson will lead two guided bird walks along the Forestry Center's Nature's Doorway trail. Patterson will also offer tips on using binoculars and encourage new birders to use all their senses as they walk through the woods.
The 45-minute bird walk will also include taking a look at the plants and trees along the trail's woodland habitat.
Information about the Green-Rock Audubon Society, Monroe's recent Bird City status, the Bluebird Society of Lafayette County, area birding sites and buying the best birdhouses will also be available during Bird Fest.
Those who attend can also bring a picnic or their own hot dogs or marshmallows to roast and enjoy a campfire after the Bird Fest.
