MONROE - Monroe's Associated Bank, located near the city's downtown, was spared as the Associated Banc prepares to close 21 retail branches across its three-state area.
The impacted locations will close late in the first quarter or early in the second quarter of 2012. All impacted branches are in close proximity to other Associated branch locations, in most cases within two miles, according to the company.
About 200 employees will be affected by the branch closings, but some are expected to obtain other jobs with the bank.
"We wanted to inform our colleagues of this impending change as soon as the decision was final, allowing them every opportunity to seek new positions inside the bank. All impacted colleagues have been informed of these changes, and we are working with them regarding opportunities to transition to the other locations or seek new positions within our organization, where positions are available," said Jennifer Kaminski, spokesperson for Associated Banc.
Associated has 280 branches in Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota, according to the FDIC. More than 200 branches are in Wisconsin. Branches to be closed include several in the Madison and Rockford areas.
