MONROE - For the 27th consecutive year, the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St., will sponsor the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program Competition. The artwork will be on exhibit from Friday, March 21 through Friday, May 2.
A demonstration and/or lecture, by professional artist Barbara Kohl-Spiro of Milwaukee, will be the focus of the artist workshop scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3. Kohl-Spiro will also serve as the judge for the competition. The event is co-sponsored by MAC and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts.
Artists can participate in the WRAP competitions and workshops held in various regions of Wisconsin throughout the year. The competition is open to all area non-professional artists over the age of 14. Work must be original; no molds or patterns from another artist may be used. Up to two entries per artist are allowed and all media are accepted such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, sculpture, fiber, metal, glass, wood, prints, pastel, digital, etc.
The State Award Winners selected from all 2014 WRAP competitions held throughout the state of Wisconsin will be on display at UW-Madison in September 2014; additional awards and prizes will be given at this time.
Entry forms are due to MAC by 4 p.m. Friday, March 7. Entry forms may be obtained at MAC or online at www.monroeartscenter.com. Artwork for the exhibit may only be delivered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 14 or Saturday, March 15.
The entry fee to compete, exhibit artwork and attend the workshop is $20. For individuals wishing to attend only the workshop on Saturday, May 3, a $5 fee will be charged at the door.
