Academy applications due Oct. 15

MADISON - Young adults in Wisconsin's second Congressional District who want to enter a U.S. military academy next summer with the class of 2017 must submit completed applications by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15 to Rep. Tammy Baldwin's Madison office, 10 E. Doty St., Suite 405.

A Congressional nomination is required for students wishing to enter the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.; the Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.; or the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.

Successful applicants will have a strong academic record, strong leadership potential, and be able to pass a physical aptitude test. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens, high school graduates, between the ages of 18 and 23, have no dependents, and be of high moral character.

Qualified students will be interviewed in late November by Baldwin's academy selection committee, comprised of area business, civic and education leaders.
