BRODHEAD — Brodhead police arrested two drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after two separate traffic crashes that occurred within one week.

Karmen E. Marshall, 27, Albany, was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, after she nearly collided head-on with an off-duty Brodhead police officer on East 9th Avenue at 10th Street, according to Chief of Police Chris Hughes.

The off-duty officer swerved to avoid a collision and Marshall’s car went off the street into a grassy area and hit several mailboxes, a utility pole guide wire and decorative rocks, Hughes reported. The officer was driving a marked squad vehicle and tried to stop her. She eventually stopped on 15th Street at West 6th Avenue.

She faces a second-offense misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated, a felony charge of possessing narcotic drugs and two counts of felony bail jumping. She was also arrested on a Department of Corrections warrant. As a result of the traffic arrest, the state is seeking to vacate her deferred prosecution agreement on a 2017 Green County charge of delivering or manufacturing meth.

Less than a week later, Brodhead police arrested Mariano Jimenez, 29, Brodhead, on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated, again on suspicion of being under the influence of an unspecified drug.

Police arrested Jimenez after a vehicle he was allegedly driving crashed at West 3rd Avenue and West Exchange Street at about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26. The vehicle hit several utility poles before come to rest on its passenger side.

Blood draws were taken from both Marshall and Jimenez for evidence.
