Joe Simonette, Monroe, talks about his best friend Spike, an 8-year-old Chihuahua-terrier mix.
Simonette has always had dogs and when his 17-year-old poodle died, he started searching for another dog. His friend suggested he look at the Green County Humane Society. So, he did, and explained he wanted a small dog. A couple of weeks later he received a call to meet a new arrival. The incoming pup ended up being Spike and the pair formed an instant bond.
“I came to look at him and he jumped in my lap,” Simonette said. “That was the end of the story.”

Describe Spike’s personality.
He’s friendly. He likes children and visiting with people and during the summer we walk around the Square. He knows everybody and everybody knows him.
What do you and Spike like to do together?
We go for walks. He likes to go for rides in the car. I know a couple people in the nursing home so they like to see him and he’ll sit in their lap for a minute.
What has it been like having Spike in your life?
He’s the best friend I have. He’s a pal.
We’re good buddies.
