MONROE - The Walking Storybook at Honey Creek Park will open with a launch party at 2 p.m. Friday.

The children's book "Planting a Rainbow" by Wisconsin author Lois Ehlert will be situated page-by-page throughout the park. The book was chosen for its colorful and visually-appealing illustrations as well as its natural themes.

A group of Green County leaders, with input from the City of Monroe and the Monroe Public Library, created the project to promote literacy and healthy habits while encouraging families to visit Honey Creek Park. The Walking Storybook project was made possible by donations from local businesses, schools and individuals, including: TDS, New Glarus Home, Colony Brands, Monroe school district administration team, students from Monroe Middle School, Parkside Elementary PTO, Northside Elementary PTO, Abraham Lincoln elementary PTO, Monroe Optimists and Monroe Sign Design.
