What is it?
● A zero-depth water attraction made out of multiple fountains, sprinklers, and nozzles which is accessible to all ages, including individuals with disabilities.
● More than just “splashing water”, it is interactive and intuitive which supports sensory development and encourages creativity.
Why?
Green County Leaders recognized a need for splashpad in Monroe. A survey reported 69% Monroe residents support a splashpad. A splashpad could attract and retain families, keep residents local since there is no similar amenity nearby, and increase tourism for local economy by drawing visitors to the city.
Costs and Donations
● 2019 project estimates were around $300,000 including the cost of equipment, concrete, and labor. A more accurate budget is being established this year through the bidding process with the city.
● Monroe City Council has allocated $75,000 of funds in 2021 and $75,000 of funds in 2022 to this project.
● Splashpad organizers have raised an additional $235,000 in pledges and donations so far, but are continuing to raise funds to cover the remaining cost of the project, budgeting shortfalls, or improve the seating/shade near the Splashpad site if excess funds are available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where will the splashpad be located?
It will be located in Twining Park to the west of the ball diamond near the new shelter and toddler playground. The fitness equipment has been relocated to a new site close by.
What is your fundraising goal?
● The group’s goal is to cover as much of the installation costs as possible. With the cost of recent inflation, the “needle” is constantly moving on what the final cost of this project will be, but a realistic estimate should be available in March of 2022.
● A contractor had estimated in 2019 that the total costs would be approximately $280,000 for a 3,100 sq. ft. splash pad. There will also be required additional funds for the donor sign, as well as the potential for adding benches and/or shade structures.
Is it possible to spread my donation out over multiple years?
All donations will need to be made in 2022.
How can I donate?
● Anyone who hasn’t already pledged can fill out the donation form on the website.
● Check or transfer of stock are also accepted.
Is the donation tax-deductible?
Yes, a donation will qualify for a tax-deduction through a 501(c)(3) status with the Green County Development Corporation.
Can we donate materials or labor instead of money?
Yes. The contractor that has experience with Splashpads, Vortex Aquatic Structures International, has worked with other communities that used donated concrete, plumbing, electrical, and landscaping labor and will train those companies to install per the designed specifications. Contact monroesplashpad@gmail.com if able to help in this way.
How will I be recognized for my donation?
Donation tiers are listed below. Donors will be recognized on a permanent sign near the splashpad coordinating with tiers and invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony. Businesses or Organizations contributing flood level and higher will be invited to have their company or group logo featured at the site.
