MONROE - "The Winter Rose," a Christmas cantata, will be presented at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 10 by the sanctuary choir of St. John's United Church of Christ.
The 9 a.m. performance will be in the sanctuary of St. John's Church, 1724 14th St. The 10:30 a.m. performance will be in the chapel at St. Clare Friedensheim. Each performance will last about 45 minutes.
Allen Redford, sanctuary choir director at St. John's, is directing the cantata. Words and music were written by Joseph M. Martin with narration by Pamela Martin. The cantata incorporates traditional carols and new anthems, many based on familiar melodies, in its approach to the Christmas story. Through the use of music and narration, the piece presents the life of Christ through the symbolism of the rose.
