MONROE — SSM Health Monroe Hospital recently presented the Men’s Resource Center of Green County with a donation of $10,000. The gift will support their five-bed men’s homeless shelter located in Monroe that connects men in need with housing and support resources.

“As housing concerns continue to grow in Green County, it’s important to us to support organizations like the Men’s Resource Center who are providing a critical resource to these men who otherwise would not have anywhere to go,” said Jane Curran-Meuli, President of SSM Health Monroe Hospital and SSM Health Monroe Clinic Medical Group. “Knowing that this financial gift gives them to the ability to make needed updates and expand to meet the growing demand makes it really meaningful.”

In 2022, the Men’s Resource Center had to turn away approximately 50 men, ranging in age from high school students to retired veterans, who were seeking shelter due to being at capacity.

“We have already completed some remodeling using these funds and will continue upgrades on the other rooms as well as the possibility to add another bathroom and bedroom increase our capacity,” said Larry Rood from the Men’s Resource Center. “With this generous donation we should be able to do these upgrades and help more men get back on their feet. Thank you again SSM Health on behalf of the Men’s Resource Center of Green County.”

The Men’s Resource Center of Green County is the only shelter in Green County, serving single men in need of emergency and transitional housing. They serve homeless veterans, high school students who have turned 18 and been put out of their home, single men released from jail and men who have lost jobs or homes for other reasons. The Men’s Resource Center of Green County has been in operation since 2015 and are a 100% volunteer-based community operated program.
