MONROE - Monroe Arts Center's 11th annual Community Showcase of Talent promises to be an evening of fantastic entertainment for the entire family. Monroe High School Performing Arts Center stage will explode with a variety of talent from over ninety performers Jan. 16 and 17.

Several past performers have combined with performers new to the Showcase of Talent to make up some of the 2009 acts. Such is the case of music duo Peggy Miller and Don Markese.

Peggy Miller of South Wayne has performed in three previous Showcases. Her love of animals and involvement with animal welfare organizations inspired her to compose a song about a dog she rescued. For this song, Peggy will be both singing and playing the piano.

Providing background music for this song will be Peggy's uncle, Don Markese.

As a member of the band for recording artist Neil Diamond, Markese has recently finished the 2008-2009 Neil Diamond World Tour, which included performances in Europe, Canada, and the United States.

When Markese isn't on the road touring with Diamond, he lives and works in Los Angeles as a studio recording musician lending his talent on sound tracks for movies, television shows and commercials, and record albums. Markese enjoys spending free-time with his family at their home in Green County.

Mary Soddy and Dave Soderberg, co-directors of the 2009 Showcase of Talent, bring a wealth of theater experience and talent to this year's show. Their appearances in a number of previous Showcases, their participation in many Monroe Theatre Guild productions, and their combination of natural humor and audience rapport will assist them in their secondary roles as the 2009 Showcase co-hosts.

More than 20 scheduled acts include vocal and instrumental soloists, duos, and trios. In this popular variety show, the audience can anticipate modern, rock-n-roll, classical, gospel, and pop music genres, along with comedy and a rousing Broadway cast finale.

Reserved seat tickets for the 2009 Community Showcase of Talent at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17 may be purchased at the Monroe Arts Center box office at 1315 11th Street. All tickets are $10. For information or tickets, contact the Monroe Arts Center at (608) 325-5700 or online at www.monroeartscenter.com.
