MONROE — Catapult, who performed on “America’s Got Talent,” is a shadow illusions dance company that will perform live at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Monroe High School Performing Arts Center, 1600 26th Street.
Tickets may be purchased by calling the Monroe Arts Center at 608-325-5700 or 888-596-1249, or in person at the box office located at 1315 11th Street, or online at www.monroeartscenter.
Using only light and a screen, these dancers create and transform themselves into one moving silhouette after another. These shape-shifters become a fire-breathing dragon, a helicopter and a roaming camel during their performance. There are eight fully realized stories told through music and shadows, and six short shadow dance videos which play between the live dances, along with brief moments of poetry or humor to prepare the audience for their next shadow journey. Catapult’s show is packed with hundreds of shape transformations, and it is full of humor, emotion and engaging stories.
Founded in 2009 by Adam Battlestein, Catapult propelled to fame on Season 8 of the NBC-TV hit show “America’s Got Talent,” earning their way to the finals. Ever since that appearance Catapult has toured worldwide. They have performed live for the royal family in Saudi Arabia, wowed audiences in Geneva, Stockholm; Vilnius, Lithuania; Lagos, Nigeria; Monte Carlo; New York’s Lincoln Center; and Las Vegas.
Catapult has provided shadow choreography for an original musical bound for Broadway next season and continues to create new work and to innovate within the genre.
