MONROE - The Discover Winter Birds program is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave. The event is sponsored by the Green-Rock Audubon Society and the youth services department of the Monroe Public Library.

Discover Winter Birds encourages all ages to explore birding as a hobby. All materials will be provided and there is no charge for the program.

Eunice Brennan and Donna Oxenreider, co-chairs for the Green-Rock Audubon Society Education Committee, and Kris Ault, youth services coordinator at the Monroe Public Library, will present the hands-on workshop.

A new Bird Quiz, created by birder Robert Ault was created to test bird identification skills.

The Cats and Collisions Obstacle Course will allow children and adults to experience the hazards of migration. Chad Mathys will be on hand to talk about Chimney Swifts and the Chimney Swift nesting tower he is interested in building.

Participants will be able to try traditional Wycinyanki, the craft of layered Polish-style paper cutting.

Information on Monroe's recent Bird City recognition, the Green-Rock Audubon Society, bird feeding tips, Internet sites for bird enthusiasts, and nearby places to see birds will be available. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the program.
