MONROE - The kindergartners at Parkside School have kits with materials using game settings for a new program called "Kindercamp."
"Kindercamp" are small groups of students led by staff and teachers, Terri Anderson, Sara Bille and Kelli Brunton, working cohesively on reading skills, such as letter identification, letter sounds, rhyming, blending/segmenting, phonemic awareness, sight words and beginning reading. The students can advance from one group to another at their own pace. Every two weeks students will be evaluated. The camp runs five days a week for 30 minute sessions and all 70 kindergartners at Parkside benefit.
The Monroe Excellence in Education Foundation responded to Monroe Schools wish to start new, innovative programs and teamed with the Monroe High School Class of 1949 who was looking for a way to contribute to the future generations educationally. The grant provided the flexibility for addressing changing needs to advance the most promising creative approached for educating children. Grants from The Monroe Excellence in Education Foundation have strengthened ties between generations and have encouraged community participation in the schools. Thanks to Monroe Class of 1949 for seeing the need and responding with contributions and caring.
