Parks and Rec to hold galaxy camp
Galaxy Camp
Kylan Ditsworth, 11, son on Kelly and Jamie Ditsworth, Ryan Roelli, 9, son of Michele and Jason Roelli and Brody Schindler, 8, son of Sarah and Dan Schindler, work on building spacecraft from a container of Legos.

MONROE — Monroe Parks and Recreation has a “Galaxy Far Away Camp” scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 6 at the Union Presbyterian Church, 2707 5th St. Note that this is a change in location.

Instructors from “Bricks 4 Kidz” will lead children in first through seventh grades for this imaginary journey through space. Children will build the Redstone Rocket, travel back in time to build NASA’s Gemini capsule and use their skills to “pilot” a spacecraft.

Galaxy Camp 2
Lane Schilt, 7, son of Rob and Megan Schilt, shows off his version of a space vehicle.

The children will build motorized models that represent spacecraft from their favorite popular space movie.

Pre-registration is due by July 30, either online or at the Parks and Recreation temporary office in the Streets Department, 1064 5th Ave., across from PDC. For more information, call the Parks and Rec Department at 329-2460.
