MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation will hold one-day programs starting at the end of July.
Mini Masterpiece Tins , 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, July 29 at the Monroe Community Center: Those who attend will develop their art skills by imitating the masters and reproducing a famous masterpiece on a 3-D metal tin. Participants will leave the class with a colorful finished tin to store art supplies or other treasures in. Paint shirts will be provided, but those who attend should wear old clothes. The cost for the program is $20 for residents and $24 for non-residents.
Just Bubbles, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Rec North Shelter: The class will use a variety of objects to make bubbles, experiment with some household chemistry to make bubbles and become a human bubble. Class is for ages 5 through 11. The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
Sandy's Circus Adventures, 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5: Participants will learn about the artist "Sandy" Calder, then will spend some time making individual circus pieces like Sandy did. The class is for children ages 8 through 11. The cost is $20 for residents and $24 for non-residents.
Family Fun Night, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Recreation Park: Those who attend will be able to play games, roast marshmallows and go for a night swim at 8 p.m. at the Monroe Pool. Lifeguards will be provided. The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family.
Super Hero Spectacular, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at Recreation North: Calling all superheroes to help save the day. Those who attend will test their superhero abilities. Participants are welcome to wear superhero costumes to class. The program is for children ages 4 through 8. The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
Touch A Truck, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 at Northeast Park: Those who attend will be able to see a dump truck, recycling truck, fire truck, EMS ambulance and police car. Class is for children ages 2 through 6. The cost for the program is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
Water Rocket Launcher, 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Recreation South: Back by popular demand. Those who attend will learn how to build water rockets and launch them into the air. The program is for children ages 6 through 12. The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
Down and Dirty, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Recreation South: Those who attend to get completely messy and participate in slightly gross games and challenges. Participants should wear old clothes or a swimsuit and bring a towel. The event will include: shaving cream Whiffle Ball, a slopstacle course and more. The program is for children ages 5 through 12. The cost is $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents.
