Nursing scholarship applications out

DARLINGTON - Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County will be accepting applications for the Cathy Lee Nursing Scholarship beginning April 15 when they become available on the hospital website.

To qualify, one must be pursuing a nursing degree, have completed one year in the nursing program for a bachelor's degree or one semester of the ADN Program and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Cathy Lee was a dedicated member of the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County for over 35 years. In 1974 she began her employment as a CNA, then became an LPN in 1980. Lee had an excellent work ethic and leadership skills, exemplified good character and was family-orientated. Most importantly, she was compassionate about her patients, who always came first.

In memory of Lee, who died from cancer, the employees at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County established a nursing scholarship. There will be one $500 scholarship awarded this year pending the number of applications and qualifications of the candidates.

The final awards will be determined by the Cathy Lee Nursing Scholarship Committee.
