MONROE - Playing in Monroe for the first time, Rockford's band Moonlight Jazz Orchestra played for hundreds of area residents as part of Main Street Monroe's Concert on the Square Summer Series on July 28.
The jazz group is celebrating its 42nd year, which will also be its last. Main Street's concert, sponsored by Colony Brands, was the band's third to last show. The UW-Platteville Swing Dance Club also attended.
The concert was moved to SLICE arena due to weather concerns and was attended by dozens of residents from Graceland Manor, Community Living, Aster Retirement and St. John's Garden Apartments. Transportation to and from the concert venue was provided by the Clifford and Dorothy Reasa Charitable Fund of the Monroe Fund. Main Street Monroe volunteers and Monroe Theatre Guild Cabaret Players set up temporary seating for and assisted attendees and pinned corsages and boutonnieres provided by Main Street.
Several attendees wore personal vintage articles of clothing. Dan Zimmerman brought his inherited 1930 Ford Model A to display.
Main Street Monroe will have two more concerts in August. The next one is Friday and will feature street performers and a sunset celebration to recognize this year's featured nonprofit organizations.
