MONROE - The School District of Monroe held its spelling bee at 1 p.m. Jan. 14 at the middle school.
First place winner is Taylor Rufer, fifth-grader at Parkside; second place winner is Riley Hartwig, sixth-grader at Monroe Middle School; third place winner is Logan Ferreri, fifth-grader at Northside; and fourth place winner is Hayden Snider, fifth-grader at Northside.
First alternate is Michelle Meyers, eighth-grader at MMS, and second alternate is Linnea Tobaka, eighth-grader at MMS.
The top four place winners of the bee will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee at 7 p.m. March 4 at Stoughton High School.
Staff who volunteered to help with the spelling bee were: MC and pronouncer Michael Flanagan, MMS English teacher; judges Barb Grabow, retired teacher, and Brittany Ripp, St. Victor fifth-grade teacher; and score keepers Gail Murray, sixth-grade teacher at MMS, and Donna Cairy, teacher of deaf/hard of hearing.
