MONROE - The City of Monroe will be having their annual Spring Clean Up days beginning April 28. This is for residents of the City of Monroe only.
Clean up for residents north of and including 13th Street will be the week of April 28. Residents south of 13th Street will have items picked up the week of May 5.
The following items will NOT be picked up:
concrete
rock
large quantities of lumber
roots
dirt
sod
hazardous materials
paint cans not emptied and dry
Do not allow anyone to place items on the terrace if they do not live with you. If you notice someone placing items on your terrace, take the license plate number if possible and report it immediately to the police department at 329-2400.
The City will haul away articles you wish to dispose of which are not picked up during regular garbage pick-up. All articles must be sorted and arranged on the terrace in an orderly manner. All discarded household items including furniture, sinks, windows, bicycles, etc. should be sorted from regular garbage and recyclables. Do not park vehicles in front of the piles.
Items with freon, which include refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners, must be paid for in advance. Stickers will be given for items upon payment. The stickers are $15 and shall be placed on the item(s) before setting them on the terrace.
Large amounts of brush and shrubbery cut down by the property owner only will be picked up with special equipment. All brush should be stacked with cut ends facing one direction. Items should not be placed near fire hydrants, utility poles, electrical boxes, roadways, nor block sidewalks.
Tires can be disposed of for a $5 fee per tire. Tires must be paid for in advance. If they do not have stickers on them, they will be left.
Be sure to sort all recyclable items: all recyclable items should be placed in clear blue bags and placed on the terrace on your regular garbage pick-up day.
Clean up day items must be on the terrace by 7 a.m. the Monday of the week of your pick-up. This does not mean everything will be picked up on Monday, but it saves the crew time if they do not have to return to an area after they have been through it once. Crews are assigned to pick up specific items and may pass your area leaving items they have not been assigned to pick up.
In conjunction with the upcoming clean up days, the City of Monroe Street Department, located at 1064 5th Avenue, will be open from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 19, to accept tires only from Monroe residents. The cost for disposal will be:
$1.25 for car and small truck tires
$3 for larger truck tires
$6 for tractor tires
The tires must be free of debris, water, and rimless. Tires may be paid for at the time of drop-off.
For more information, contact the city of Monroe Streets and Sanitation Department at 329-2490 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
