MONROE - Hernia discomfort affects the lives of tens of thousands of people each year. Fortunately there are a variety of safe procedures that can eliminate the discomfort and have patients back to their daily activities in very little time.

On Tuesday, Jan. 15, Monroe Clinic and Dr. Andrew Rikkers will present "Relief From Hernia Discomfort" a community presentation to help attendees understand the cause, prevention and treatment of groin hernias, abdominal hernias and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). The presentation begins at 6 p.m. in Founders Hall of Monroe Clinic.

"With proper treatment of hernias, patients can enjoy a fulfilling and active lifestyle," said Rikkers.

Rikkers received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City and provides inpatient and outpatient surgery with a specific interest in minimally invasive surgery.

"This is a surgical technique that benefits patients through smaller incisions and faster recovery times," says Rikkers. He treats colon cancer, diverticular disease, breast disease and hernias, as well as a wide range of other conditions.
