Monroe: Parks and Rec has program openings

MONROE - The Monroe Parks & Recreation Department has openings in the following programs. Anyone interested in signing up for any of the programs can stop in at the Park and Recreation Department in the basement of city hall, 1110 18th Ave., Monroe.

The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with someone in the office over the noon hour. Call 329-2460 with any questions regarding programs.

 

Exercise

Exercise class will meet from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 8 through April 3 at the Park and Recreation office. The cost to participate in Exercise is $37 for Monroe residents and $44 for non-residents. Sherri Schindler is the instructor. Please note: you will need to bring a resist-a-ball. Registration is now open.

 

Children's Dance

A new session of dance will begin Sunday, Jan. 13 and run through March 16. The program meets at the Community Center. Pre-ballet for 3 & 4 year olds meets from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Ballet is for 5-year-olds and older and will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Cost to participate in dance is $32 for residents and $39 for non-residents. The instructors are Paige Hoesly and Rebecca Flannery.

YOuth Center Classes

Youth center classes are open to students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The cost to participate is $6 per class. Pre-registration is required, as some classes are limited to 24 participants.

Basketball with the Cheesemakers 

Basketball with the Cheesemakers will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24 for kids in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost to participate is $6. Participants should meet at the Monroe high school gym and wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes. Kids will have the opportunity to run drills and shoot hoops with the Cheesemaker girls and boys basketball teams. All participants will receive a Campion's Champions t-shirt donated by Monsignor Campion.

 

Magic Is in the Air

Monroe Park and Recreation and Monroe Behring Senior Center will be sponsoring Magic is in the Air on Friday, Feb. 22 for children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost to participate is $6 and all participants will be asked to bring a snack. This program will be held at Behring Senior Center. Participants will see a magic show, decorate cookies, make candy and have their fortunes read.

This class is first-come, first-serve basis, and is limited to 24 participants.

 

American Girl Tea Party

American Girl Tea Party will be held on Friday, April 4 for girls in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost to participate is $6 and all participants will be asked to bring a snack. The program will be held at Monroe Park & Rec. Girls are invited to dress up and bring their American girl doll or favorite doll. Girls will "Get Pretty," play games, do crafts and have afternoon tea with their doll and friends.

 

CSI-Crazy Science Investigations

CSI-Crazy Science Investigations will be held on Monday, May 12 for children in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. The event will run from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost to participate is $6 and all participants will be asked to bring a snack. The program will be held at Monroe Park and Recreation. Participants will solve the half-eaten cheese mystery, make homemade slime, and create finger print art.
