JANESVILLE - Rock County Genealogical Society will host an information program on symbols seen in cemeteries following a brief business meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2921 Mt. Zion Ave., Janesville.
Refreshments are provided. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. John Inman, Monroe, will present a talk on cemetery symbolism that includes both local southern Wisconsin tombstones and colonial and southern United States stones.
Inman's interest in family history started at a very young age on the family farm in Rock County surrounded by four generations of artifacts, old Rock County history books and plat books. In his collection are some letters written by his great-great grandfather, also a John Inman. Both his mother and his aunt shared a deep interest in genealogy, a strong stimulus in his tracing the now 12 generations of Inman's that have lived in America.
