MONROE - The Monroe Public Library Youth Services Department and Kris Ault, Youth Services Librarian, are hosting a Saint Patrick's Day party from 3 to 4:45 p.m. on Monday, March 17, in the library's meeting room. The drop-in program is free and no registration is required.

The party will take place before the Monroe Main Street Saint Patrick's Day parade steps off at 5:17 p.m. Monday. Families are encouraged to wear green and join in the fun by walking the short parade route with the Library Clan, the Monroe Public Library parade entry.

The pre-parade activities at the library will feature stories, crafts, and family fun. Ault will share Irish stories and folktales at 3:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Children age 3 to 11 are welcome to paint Blarney stones, try the leprechaun's gold challenge, make parade hats, and create Lucky Shamrocks. During the scavenger hunt, scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m., there will be an opportunity for families to collect leprechaun gold.

The library will also be the site of several Saint Patrick's Day contests. Children may enter the Reddest Hair, Most Freckles, and Leprechaun Look-Alike contest. Winning contestants are encouraged to walk in the parade with Miss Kris. The Monroe Main Street Committee is providing small prizes for all participants as well as the winners.
