MONROE - Riley Ann Schultz, a 2003 graduate of Monroe High School, returns to Monroe for a stop on tour with her Colorado blues/rock band The Catcalls from 7:30 to 9 p.m. April 10 at Monroe Theatre Guild.
The doors will open at 7 p.m. The show is free and open to the public and will accept free-will donations.
This is a stripped-down show as part of their "Pillow Talk Tour" through the Midwest.
Schultz, daughter of Gene Schultz and Kim Remley, was born and raised in Monroe and was active in the band program at MHS, including wind ensemble, jazz band and various seasonal bands, including German band, mariachi band and various pit orchestras, in addition to being active in National Honor Society, the German program and various theatre productions.
Schultz has played saxophone, violin, guitar, banjo and mandolin and has taught high school English in Dubuque, Iowa, and Scales Mound, Illinois. She played with various bands, including her own band, The Matriarchs, an all-female string band that played at the 2015 Green County Dairy Breakfast at Dan and Ashley Wegmueller's farm and the 2012 Cheese Days Festival. After teaching full-time in public schools for six years, Schultz moved to Colorado to pursue music as a career.
Schultz's bandmate, Kayleen Patrick, has lived and worked on a dairy farm in Ladysmith. Although she has played throughout the area in different projects, this is the duo's first tour through the Midwest and their exclusive stop in the Monroe area.
The Catcalls currently are touring as an acoustic/electric duo. The two women met at a grassroots organization Schultz started called the Coalition of Women Songwriters in Boulder, Colorado. The organization aims to connect and empower women in the music community. The band is currently in the studio recording their debut E.P. and expects to release it this summer.
