Master Gardeners' annual plant sale set for May 8

MONROE - The South Central Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association will conduct a plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 8, in the auditorium of the Government Services Building, Pleasant View Complex, N3150 Wisconsin 81, Monroe.

The plant sale is an opportunity for area residents to purchase hardy zone four perennials, herbs and annual plants that have been grown locally by University of Wisconsin-Extension Master Gardeners. Started vegetable plants, houseplants and unique plants will be available as well as several handcrafted garden use items. Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to help you in selecting plants to fit your gardening needs.

The money raised from the plant sale is used to provide scholarships for Green County area youth that are planning to further their in education in horticulture related fields at a two- or four-year college. The three Green County youth that will be receiving scholarships for 2010 will be announced at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the plant sale.

There are currently over 30 certified UW-Extension Master Gardener Volunteers available to answer gardening, turf, shrub, fruits, prairie and other horticulture questions from homeowners.
