MAC hosts annual photo exhibit

MONROE - For the 19th consecutive year, the Monroe Arts Center will again host their annual Photography Contest and Exhibit. Monroe's Sesquicentennial Celebra tion will serve as this year's inspiration. The only category for the 2008 Photography Contest is, "Views of Green County."

Photographs entered in this contest will be on display in the MAC Wesley Hall from September 6 through September 27. A special exhibit by professional photographer, Dennis Dalton, will accompany the Photography Contest and Exhibit this year.

The contest offers three separate classifications: Junior Classification-under 18 years of age/any type of camera; Adult Beginner Classification - a person with minimal experience and/or no course training; and Adult Advanced Classification - a person having any photography experience, course training, or photographs previously published in one form or another. Participants may enter up to two photographs.

Using only the "Views of Green County" theme, photographs could revolve around landscape, people or buildings, and can be executed in black and white, color, digital or mixed media. All photographs must have been taken after January 1, 2007 and must have been taken in Green County. Photos must be a minimum of 8 x 10 and maximum of 16 x 20 and framed and suitable for hanging.

First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in all three classifications based on merit and number of entrants. Cash awards are as follows: Adult Classification -$125 for Best in Show, $75 for first runner-up, and $50 for second runner-up. Junior Classification: $50 Best in Show, $30 for first runner-up and $20 for second runner-up.

The entry fee for this contest is $20 for up to two photograph entries and the deadline for entering is Friday, Aug. 17. Entry forms are available at the Monroe Arts Center office or online at www.monroeartscenter.com. For additional information call the Monroe Arts Center office at (608) 325-5700.
