DARLINGTON — In the next few months several opportunities to see and touch history are coming up that are educational and fun.
During the weekend of Sept. 23-25, the Lafayette County Historical Society will host “Night (and Day) at the Museum” in Veterans Park 525 Main St., Darlington. The theme is much like the movie “Night at the Museum,” in which a variety of historical museum displays come to life at night. Fur Trade Era and Civil War encampments will mix with famous people related to Lafayette County from all historical periods. There will be multiple food vendors, shooting and other demonstrations for entertainment, and the Museum will be open to visitors. Saturday night, Sept. 14, will have live music from 6 to 10 p.m.
Other events include Mine Day at the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums, August 20, in Platteville, 405 E Main St., starts at noon and includes mine tours, train rides, gem and mineral show, earth science, bluegrass music, ice cream and other refreshments.
The Badger Mine & Museum in Shullsburg is open Monday through Friday. Call for more information at 608-965-4860.
There are also historic sites on the subject of mining, farming, and Father Mazzuccelli, an early missionary in Benton. Yellowstone State Park is a place to explore and use one’s imagination about the early history of the area.
