The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department still has a few spots open in the after-school program for this coming school year. Children entering 5K through fifth grade can participate. The daily schedule includes various activities such as a snack, reading, homework, crafts, speakers, games, field trips to the library, gym, science experiments, matchbox cars, Legos, dolls and coloring. The program runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. from the first day of school through mid-May and will be extended from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on early release days. Students must register at the temporary Parks and Recreation office at the Streets Department, 1064 5th Ave., across from PDC.
