MONROE — Healthy Kids Day at the Green County Family YMCA is Saturday, April 29 from 9 a.m. — noon. The event is free and open to the public. Most of the Healthy Kids Day activities will be outdoors unless of inclement weather, in which case they will be moved indoors.
Healthy Kids Day is the Y’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. For over 30 years, YMCAs across the country have hosted free community events aimed toward inspiring kids and families to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the summer months and beyond.
This year, the Green County Family YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day Celebration will include Mercyhealth’s REACT helicopter, Monroe Police and Fire Departments, animals from the Green County Humane Society, a tractor from Hennessey Implement, and Maximus the therapy dog running through an agility course. Crafts and educational stations will include The Potting Shed, Dental Haus, Kiwanis of Monroe, Green County Public Health, Monroe Chiropractic Associates, the Child Advocacy Center, and SARP.
Kids can run, tumble and play in the Y’s bounce houses or run through agility and obstacle courses. The Aquatics Center will also be free and open to the public for Open Swim from 11 a.m. to noon. (Children seven years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult in the water.) Kids of all ages, including those young at heart, are welcome and invited to the event. Most activities are especially geared toward children 12 years old and younger.
