Green County junior team takes third place at livestock judging

MONROE - Green County 4-H members, Troy Gorr, Traiten Gorr, Danielle Schneider and Mitchell Wilson represented Green County in the junior division at the 2010 Wisconsin State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest July 26 at the Arlington Public Events Building.

They earned the opportunity to advance to the state event after placing second at the Area Animal Science Days event July 1 in Lancaster.

Youth participants had to judge three classes of beef cattle, simmental heifers, red angus heifers and market steers; three classes of swine commercial gilts, Berkshire gilts and market hogs; and two classes of sheep southdown ewe lambs and market lambs. Participants also had to answer questions on two classes and give a set of oral reasons on the Market Steer Class.

Green County placed third out of eight junior teams. Troy Gorr was second overall individual in beef, while Mitchell Wilson was second overall individual in swine. Troy Gorr was the fourth overall in the junior division.
